Writing inspired by the following SWC prompt:
Gravestones In The Sunshine
Write a story or a poem about exploring a cemetery in the middle of the day.
It’s a scary or intimidating place at midnight, maybe. But how do your characters
feel walking between the gravestones at midday?
Gravestones in the Sunshine
by Elary Wakefield
Good morning, Maria.
I didn’t know the person who was only feet below the ground.
The weather today is grey and rainy; I think you’d like it.
She is just a great listener.
It’s the perfect day to be dumped. Chelsea told me we needed to see other people. Ugh.
Her name was Maria Stewart Westen; died age 37.
Can you believe that bullshit? What a jerk!
The same age I am now; her death wasn’t recent, it was almost 100 years ago.
She didn’t even do it in person.
Maria wouldn’t be having this problem.
She just posted a fucking TikTok video so now everyone knows!
She was a strong woman for her time.
I just feel…lost. Again.
Maria had everything perfectly made out in life.
Is it normal to feel so lost?
At least I wanted her to be.
I hope so.
It makes me feel like I can do it.
I just want someone to tell me what to do.
I can be a strong woman just like her.
Anyways, I got to go to work. Love you.
I won’t die so soon, I will live on for you Maria.
What an usual piece! The dual dialogue is really clever.
What a great idea, a conversation across the century
